A round up of March's latest headlines from the UK's new housebuilder industry.

Barratt sells 172 luxury London new-build flats as rental homes

Housebuilder Barratt bundled 172 flats together and sold them to Henderson Park for £140.5m, with property management company, Greystar set to manage the homes. David Thomas, Chief Executive of Barratts has said it was an "excellent opportunity" to deliver homes more quickly than they would otherwise be able.

Housbuilder Berkeley Group expects profits to be high on forecasts

After an initial 16% fall in sales post-Brexit, in the last two months Berkeley have said that property reservations were higher than the previous year. This signalled the stabilising of the London and South East housing market. Berkeley added that they have a further 22 sites in the pipeline.

SME Housbuilder numbers plummet

Leadinvest research has found that SME housebuilder numbers have dropped to a fifth of what they were in 1988 - when there were 12,200 registered small housebuilders compared to the 2,400 recorded in 2014. The Leadinvest Chief Executive commented that this was down to "governments' under-investment and muted decisions".

Barratt Homes North Midlands has appointed new MD

Chris Southgate has been appointed as Managing Director of the Barratt Homes North Midlands. Last year the firm built 782 homes and contributed to over £172m to the UK's economic output.

Bovis Homes in talks over merger with Galliford Try

If a Bovis Homes - Galliford Try merger were to go ahead it would create one of Britains largest housebuilders, and could bring important cost savings.
